DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The University of Dayton men's basketball team tried to keep a five-game winning streak against Miami going Tuesday night.  It didn't work.

UD's Paul Williams scored a career high 20 points, but it was not enough in a 72-67 overtime loss to the Miami RedHawks.

Kevin Dillard added 11 points, six rebounds six assists and four steals as Dayton dropped to 1-1 overall.

In the 129th meeting between the two schools, Dayton shot 49 percent from the field, but committed 22 turnovers.

With the game tied at 57-57, Josh Benson hit a post lay in off the glass to put the Flyers ahead by two with 1:27 to go. His bucket snapped a six-minute scoreless stretch by UD.

The RedHawks answered with two free throws to tie the contest at 59-59. Neither team could convert on their final possessions to win in regulation.
In overtime, the RedHawks shot 50 percent in the extra frame.

The closest Dayton would come to tying it was when UD trailed by two with 21 seconds remaining.

Other contributors for Dayton included Josh Benson with eight points and five rebounds, while Chris Johnson and Josh Parker added six points apiece.

Williams shot 8-of-13 from the field and 4-for-6 from three-point range.

The Flyers return home to face the UNC-Wilmingon Seahawks on Saturday, Nov. 19 beginning at 2 p.m.
