Record crowd sees Reds Caravan

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - 2,000 fans packed the National Museum of the United States Air Force Sunday to see the Reds Caravan.

"It's really incredible because my son is a real big Reds fan and he loves to play baseball.  I think he's really going to enjoy it," says Joe Thatcher of Bellefontaine.

"We want to see them speak and get our stuff signed, like baseball cards and baseball hats," explains Andrew Thatcher of Bellefontaine.

Reds fans from all over greeted the Rockstars with loud cheers as they took the stage for their last stop on the northern leg of the tour.

The record turnout even impressed Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips who snapped a few pics of his own.

"It's all about giving back to the fans and letting them get to know us players as normal people.  I mean, that's why I love going on these caravans and especially coming to Dayton.  I mean, it's just nice to see everyone to come out here and look at the Rockstar group," comments Phillips.

Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman  believes this caravan stop should be a staple every year.

"The fact that there is a minor league club here that plays at Fifth Third Field everyday during the Midwest League season is an indication of how important the Reds organization feels that the City of Dayton and the areas around it are.  So, we're happy as we can be to be here to finish this thing off," says Brennaman.

Now, Reds fans will only have to wait a couple more weeks until Spring Training starts.
