NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA has handed down one-game suspensions to Indiana center Roy Hibbert and Golden State forward David Lee for starting an altecration that drifted into the stands last night. Hibbert was ejected after the skirmish, which began when he and Lee exchanged shoves under the basket after a missed shot. The NBA says that the Warriors' Stephen (STEH'-fihn) Curry and Klay Thompson and the Pacers' Lance Stephenson were fined $35,000 each for escalating the fight.
UNDATED (AP) — A person with knowledge of the trade tells The Associated Press that the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to acquire quarterback Alex Smith from San Francisco. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade does not become official until March 12, when the NFL's new business year begins. Another person familiar with the deal says the 49ers will get a second-round draft pick in April, the No. 34 pick overall, and a conditional pick in the 2014 draft.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — A person familiar with the matter says the NCAA is alleging that former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro was responsible for providing about $170,000 in impermissible benefits to Hurricanes athletes, recruits, coaches and others between 2002 and 2010. The person says the NCAA alleges Shapiro spent at least $90,000 in an effort to get NFL players Vince Wilfork and Antrel Rolle to sign with a sports agency he was involved with, and another $56,000 on "meals, entertainment, clothing, jewelry, travel, lodging and cash" on football players, recruits and others.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving is missing a second straight game tonight due to a knee injury suffered in practice recently. The All-Star played two games following the injury but lacked his usual quickness in losses to Orlando and Miami. The Cavs are 3-9 without Irving this season, and 7-20 over the last two years.
DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Stars have activated goaltender Kari Lehtonen (KAH'-ree LEH'-toh-nehn) after he missed five games because of a groin injury suffered in a 4-3 win over Vancouver on Feb. 15. He says he expects make his return tomorrow night against Edmonton. The 29-year-old Lehtonen is 7-2-1 with a 2.12 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.
