SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - For the third straight year, Springfield Country Club hosted sectional qualifying for the upcoming U.S. Open.
44 players are competing for two spots. They played 36 holes of stroke play Monday afternoon.
It was a beautiful day at the newly renovated Donald Ross course.
Brice Garnnet shot rounds of 66 and 65. The Missouri native is your leader in the clubhouse at 9 under.
South Korean Seung-yul Noh has qualified the past two years out of Springfield. He shot an opening round 68 and stands at 4 under. He's 3 strokes back of earning a spot.
Bellbrook's Jeff Scohy scored an even par 70 in the first round. Scohy stands even on the day. The young amateur says just playing in the qualifier is a thrill.
