BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — As former LSU Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon recovers from a recent stroke at home, doctors say his health is expected to return to normal in four to six weeks.

Cannon was hospitalized last Tuesday following a stroke while he was on the job as the dentist at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola.

He was discharged and returned home on Thursday and the family released more details about his prognosis on Saturday through LSU. Cannon's daughter, Bunnie, says the family is humbled and grateful for countless expressions of support and prayers from fans.

Cannon was part of LSU's first national championship team in 1958 and won the Heisman in 1959. He played professionally for the Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders, and then went to dental school.
