Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - Chris Hawkins’ run-scoring single in the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and the Lansing Lugnuts went on to a 5-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field before a crowd of 8,412.

Dayton led 2-0 before Lansing tied the game in the sixth on a two-out, two-run double by K.C. Hobson.  In the eighth, Nick Baligod walked to start the inning, went to second on Gustavo Pierre’s sacrifice, and scored on Hawkins’ single to center to give Lansing a 3-2.  They scored two in the ninth on a pair of bases-loaded walks to close out the scoring.

Cincinnati Reds reliever Nick Masset started the game for the Dragons and went one inning, allowing only a two-out single.  Wes Mugarian followed Masset and tossed the next four and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and two runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Ryan Kemp (1-5) got the final out in the sixth and pitched a scoreless seventh before allowing one run in the eighth to suffer the loss.  His final line showed two and one-third innings with two hits and one run, two walks and one strikeout.  Dan Jensen pitched the ninth inning and struggle with control, allowing four walks, one hit and two runs with a strikeout.

The Dragons scored in the first inning for the third straight night.  Juan Perez singled to right, went to second on a passed ball, and scored on Spencer Dickinson’s single to right-center to make it 1-0.  In the fifth, the Dragons added another run when Junior Arias singled to right with one out, stole second, went to third on an error, and scored on Perez’s sacrifice fly to left to give Dayton a 2-0 lead.  The Dragons advanced only one runner as far as second base the rest of the night.

The Dragons finished with six hits.  No one had more than one.  Kyle Waldrop had a double for the only extra base hit.
