DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Two NBA stars and Dunbar High School graduates received special recognition Tuesday evening from the Dayton School Board.
"We do hereby proclaim August the 15, 2012 as Norris Cole and Dequan Cook Day in the Dayton Public Schools," said Superintendent Lori Ward.
Norris Cole and Dequan Cook both played in the 2012 NBA finals. Cole plays for the champion Miami Heat. Cook plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Dequan Cook's mother accepted the award on his behalf, but Norris Cole returned to his hometown for the honor.
"It feels good, you know it's always great to come back home and to be recognized and to set an example for the ones behind me to try to strive for even greater things," said Cole.
The school board also recognized the Thurgood Marshall Track team for finishing 4th in the state championship.
