SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds from Chris Wright wasn't enough as the No. 18/21 University of Dayton Flyers fell to the Kansas State Wildcats 83-75 in the third place game of the 2009 Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
Chris Johnson led the Flyers (2-2) with 16 points and six rebounds, but they were dominated in the paint, where Kansas State outscored them 38-24 and outrebounded them 41-30.
The Wildcats (4-1) built an early lead and had enough to hang on at the finish to beat the Flyers, who defeated No. 21 Georgia Tech in the first round of the tournament.
Wright had a thunderous dunk that pulled Dayton within four with 1:41 to play in regulation.
But the Wildcats answered with a layup and five free throws in the final minute to pull away.
Marcus Johnson scored 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor while Chris Johnson went 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.
However, as a team the Flyers shot 16-of-27 (53 percent) compared to the Wildcats who were 27-of-44 (61 percent) at the foul line.
Paul Williams added 10 points and three assists for Dayton while London Warren tallied five points and five rebounds.
As a team, the Flyers shot 46 percent from the floor. Wright shot 7-of-10 from the floor and recorded six offensive rebounds.
