DAYTON, OH (WDTN) - Whether you're looking for gift ideas, or finishing up your last minute holiday shopping.. you can give to local charities without spending a dime. Here's what you need to know about a search and shopping website that's putting money in the pockets of area non-profits.
How many times a day do you look up something on the internet? How often do you shop online? All that searching and buying could mean money for local non-profit groups like Clothes that Work. All you have to do is head to Goodsearch or goodshop dot com. Co-founder JJ Ramberg explains how it works. "GoodShop is incredibly simple. All you do is go to GoodShop.com, enter in your favorite non-profit or school, and then click through to any of our partner retailers from Amazon all the way to Petco and Orbitz, you shop on their site just as you normally would". Each store displays what percentage of your purchase it will give to your charity or school and there are often coupons and discounts as well.
Clothes that Work offers free interview appropriate clothing and one-on-one image coaching for people who need help looking for a job. It has seen a 44 percent increase in clients needing help this year and every penny makes a difference. "This is a way for people who might not be able to pull money out of their pocket to give, but still support the job seekers out there." says associate executive director of Clothes That Work Lindsay Ackley. Only with goodsearch for about a year, Clothes that Work has received just 70 dollars but organizers think much more can be made if people just spread the word." says Ackley.
Even if you don't buy anything, you're helping out the charity or school of your choice. Goodsearch dot com is powered by Yahoo. Every time you use that search engine... a penny goes into the pocket of your charity, money that can really add up.
