The BBC says it's news chief and her deputy have quote "stepped aside" this morning, admidst the fall out from a child abuse scandal that forced it's director-general to resign. Last month, a competitor aired an investigation about sex abuse allegations directed at BBC anchor,Jimmy Savile, who died last year. It was later revealed the BBC had been investigating the same story, but abruptly stopped, prompting new allegations against management of a coverup. The BBC's prior director general, Mark Thompson, is scheduled to become chief executive of the new york times starting today.

Americans across the country continue to salute the nation's veterans. Yesterday, millions of Americans marked Veterans Day with parades and other events. Today, marks the Monday holiday and commemorations will continue. In observance, city, county, federal, and state offices will be closed today, as well as banks, courts and libraries.

Many area restaurants have special deals for veterans. Smashburger is offering a free entree to veterans here in the Miami Valley. You can bring your U.S. services ID card or wear your uniform to receive your free meal. Smashburger has three locations in our area -- one on Brown Street, State Route 725, and Miller Lane.

Veterans can also catch a free ride today. The RTA is showing it's thanks for your service -- all active duty, former or retired military veterans. By showing your military ID, or reasonable proof, you can get a free bus ride from the first scheduled service time through the last scheduled service today. For trip times, head to i ride RTA.org .

If you're sick of leaves piling up on your street, Xenia residents will have them swept away today. City officials warn not to park your car too closely to the piles. Leaves can be bagged or mulched, just make sure they're waiting at the curb. Up to 14 bags will be collected per residence. Or you can always drop your leaves off at the Greene County recycling center on Greene Way Boulevard.
