DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - RTA now offers Family Passes for sale in an effort to ease the cost of riding the bus for families in Montgomery County.

The pass represents RTA’s commitment to provide affordable, accessible transit for area families. Always working to meet customer needs, the agency has developed the Family Pass as a flexible way to travel throughout Greater Dayton several times a day if desired. The pass allows travel all day long on any RTA fixed route bus to provide families the opportunity to tap into maximum savings and convenience.

The one-day pass is $8 for families of no more than four. If a family used the pass for only one round trip, their savings could add up to $2.40 with significantly more savings when several trips are made throughout the day. The pass will be available to a family of up to two adults and up to two children 12 years old and younger and taller than 45 inches. If a child does not already have a school ID or other proof of age, an RTA Youth ID card is available free by calling 937-425-8301 for an appointment at the RTA Certification Center at Wright Stop Plaza. Under RTA’s fare policy all children less than 45 inches tall ride free with no more than two such riders allowed per family.

For the greatest convenience, Family Passes will be sold on any fixed route RTA bus. While RTA can provide Change Cards, customer service strongly encourages riders to

have the exact fare. For those customers who do not have exact change, RTA issues a Change Card, which is used like a credit card. Change Cards allow customers to draw down on the amount available each time they board the bus.

RTA’s Family Pass grew out of a community partnership with the Leaders for Equality & Action in Dayton (LEAD) to respond to customer needs. LEAD is a group of Dayton area churches and faith-based organizations that will help publicize the program to its members. The Family Pass will first launch as a pilot program in order to measure the benefits to customers using the passes. If successful and customers respond favorably to the pass, RTA will move to permanently include the pass as part of its fare structure.

If you have questions about the new Family Pass, please visit i-riderta.org or phone the Customer Support at 937-425-8300. For an appointment to get a free RTA Youth ID card, call 937-425-8301.
