DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - WDTN and Dayton's CW are teaming up with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio Association of Police Athletic League for an anti-bullying workshop to help our children.
The October 1st event is aimed toward teens, but anyone is welcome to attend.
Organizers say it's going to give participants the tools they need to become a bully advocate.
There is no such thing as a bully free zone. The reality is it happens everyday in every community.
And officials say it's a growing problem with effects that last a lifetime.
"We've had a lot of teen suicides because of bullying, we've had a lot of drop outs," said Cynthia Davidson, President of Ohio P.A.L.
Cynthia Davidson is President of the Ohio Association of Police Athletic and Activities League. The organization recently received federal grant money and decided to dedicate a large portion to protecting kids from bullying.
Davidson says it's an investment that's worth making.
"We need to do everything that we can in our power to make our kids feel safe and secure, that they are valued and that education is important."
With the help of WDTN, Dayton's CW and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, they're putting on "A Youth Workshop on Bullying".
An entire day will be dedicated to giving teen leaders the tools they need to combat bullying in their own communities.
Sheriff Phil Plummer will emcee the anti-bullying event and there will be a long list of presenters including MMA Fighter Daniel Puder and Celebrity Fitness Trainer Kyle Brown.
And with their help, participants will get all the tools they need to become an anti-bullying advocate.
If you would like to participate in the youth workshop on bullying, it's saturday, october 1st from 9:30 to 4:30.
The event is being held at Hara Arena.
To register, call 496-RSVP.
The event is free, but seating is limited to the first 500 people.
The following people have recently been booked into Jail. They may not have been convicted of the crimes they are charged with and are innocent until proven guilty.
