MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) - Miamisburg voters passed a substitute levy, but an additional levy failed 47 to 53 percent. The failure means about 100 staff members will likely lose their jobs.
Miamisburg Schools Superintendent Dallas Jackson had said both levies were essential for the district, which is facing rising operating costs and enrollment numbers. Advocates for the levies held more than 70 informal sessions, and went door to door to get the support of the voters.
Jackson said he believes the work paid off.
Still, the failure will cut about $4.5 million from the budget, an approximate 10 percent budget cut.
Jackson said the staffing cuts will go into effect in the 2010-2011 school year.
A meeting is being held on February 4th at 7 p.m. in the Neff Board Room to talk about what's next following the levy defeat.
