DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A "suspicious" fire destroyed one home and damaged two others late Tuesday night.

The fire started at a home on Fillmore Street that a family had just moved out of according to officials, but the flames spread to the two houses next door where people live.

Three families were left without a place to stay. The Red Cross was helping them find hotel rooms.

The hot and humid conditions outside made it difficult on firefighters battling the blaze. Fire officials rotated people out so they could take breaks and made sure they had plenty of fluids.

No cases of heat exhaustion were reported.

The home where the fire started is being called a total loss. One of the homes next door suffered some damage to the attic because it was only feet away from the house where the fire started.

Crews went inside that second home to keep the flames from completely burning through it.

A third house ended up with some scorched siding.

Investigators will look into what may have sparked the blaze.
