Woman admits to burning down her home

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) - A Beavercreek woman changed her plea about the arson fire that burned her home down.

Nancy Skinner, 51, admitted to a lesser charge of attempted aggravated arson, but it was the story that was revealed in court that is shocking.

Skinner's attorney, Jon Rion, says Skinner decided to set her Plantation Road house on fire last August because she wanted to destroy the home in which her son had killed himself.

Rion says Skinner suffers from depression and is working on her mental health.

Skinner has also reached a plea deal with prosecuting attorneys which would mean community control and more than $15,000 in restitution, paid to the responders and investigators who worked the fire.

"I think in the back of her mind, she could get some relief if she did away with this, and of course, that wasn't an appropriate solution to her problem, but nonetheless, very compelling," said Jon Rion, Skinner's attorney.

"It's an appropriate resolution., She's taking responsibility. She's taking steps to address the issues that led to this particular event as well as she's agreed to pay restitution," said Cheri Stout, Asst. Greene County Prosecuting Attorney.

The judge is not bound by that plea deal per Ohio law.

Skinner could face up to 5 years in prison. She'll be sentenced in May.
