WILBERFORCE, Ohio (WDTN) - Two Wilberforce University students helped secure a makeover for their campus.

Na'asiaha Simon and Mikel Williams are laying the foundation for a more beautiful Wilberforce University.

"I feel really great. It's been a long time coming and feels like a little baby that I've had basically," said Mikel Williams.

The students applied for a $10,000 grant through Home Depot's Retool Your Schools contest. Simon says she cried when she found out they won.

The heavy stones will serve as more than a walkway outside Allen Commons Student Union. Their design will actually provide a gathering spot for students.

Shook Construction provided some equipment and workers to clear the area. Broadway Gravel and Sand of Dayton also pitched in their skills.

It's a proud moment for university president, Patricia Hardaway. She said, "It just sends me the signal that we're doing things correctly. We're giving students the opportunity to grow and take initiative and just be excited about life."
