Why family has the "Wright" stuff

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - In the crowd of people at the Wright Brothers Memorial Monday, the one who the brothers may have had the most impact on is the youngest.

"They changed the world forever and it changed my life," says 9-year-old Carson Harris.

You see for Harris this day is special for a reason beyond the fact it's the 109th anniversary of the Wright Brothers first flight.

It's also his birthday.

"He actually was born on the 100th anniversary of the first flight," says Carson's dad, Mike.

In a strange twist that would baffle even two famous inventors like the Wright Brothers, the anniversary is also Mike's birthday.

For the last five years the two have made the trip from their home in Cincinnati to watch as a wreath is laid in front of the Wright Brothers Memorial.

For them it's like a gift from the past.

"It's our job as parents to pass on tradition as well as history," Mike says.

Mike hopes his son shares something else with the Wright Brothers aside from a special day.

"You want your child to strive to do things that people tell them they can't do," Mike says.

Which is why Carson has one other connection to the Wright Brothers.

Say hello to Carson "Wright" Harris.

His middle name is a tribute to the aerial pioneers and something that could one day lift him to new heights.

"If you want to achieve it you work hard and one day you'll achieve what you always wanted," Carson says of the lesson he learned from the Wright Brothers.
