BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) - A line stretched out the door of Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek Monday evening. More than 100 volunteers signed in to canvas the area where Xenia mother Tiffany Tehan, 31, went missing Saturday, April 17. The groups fanned out, passing out flyers and spreading the word about Tehan's disappearance. Some were friends and family, others strangers.
"You just don't know what to do," said volunteer Vicki Deere Bunnell. "You want to do something. This is it."
Beth McDowell, Tehan's friend of 16 years, joined the search, holding back tears as she posted the missing flyers in business windows throughout Kettering.
"The world seems bigger when you're trying to search all of it at once," McDowell said. "You never think that you're going to be looking for someone. You never think. You read it in the papers, you see it on the news, and it's a story. When it touches someone you know and you love, it's life. It's real, and it's terrifying."
Tehan left her Xenia home Saturday and headed to Beavercreek, to look for clothes for her infant daughter at The Greene. Her husband, David Tehan, said he spoke with her on the phone as she left the shopping center, and she said she wanted to stop by some rummage sales. Tehan never came home.
Kettering police discovered her green 2000 Ford Explorer parked in a back lot at Indian Riffle Park on Stroop Road, less than a mile from The Greene. Police said the car was locked, the keys were inside, and one of its tires was flat.
"She lives a quiet life," said McDowell. "She is a wonderful mother, and is married to an amazing guy."
Friends and family hope their efforts will bring Tehan home safely.
"The more people that know what's happening, that know about Tiffany, we feel the faster we're going to get some answers," McDowell said.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Patterson Park Church, 3655 E. Patterson Road, Beavercreek, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2010 for another search for Tehan.
