WEST MANSFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - Strong winds and rain from Hurricane Sandy didn't stop a group from gathering in West Mansfield to honor a Rushsylvania teen killed in a hit and run accident.

Austin Houser, 15, was found dead in a ditch along SR 274 just north of Rushsylvania, Oct. 27, 2012.  Deputies said their preliminary investigation indicates that Houser was hit by a motor vehicle that left the scene of the crash.

Family and friends lit candles and shared their fondest memories of Austin, who would have turned 16 November 4, Monday evening.

"I just can't believe it," said Patience Gamble, who had been close friends with Austin since middle school.  "Its like a nightmare that I can't wake up from."

Gamble helped organize the vigil that was held at an area park.

"Austin was such as great friend," said Gamble.  "He always watched over our group of friends."

Austin's mother, Ellenna Houser, also attended the vigil.

"Its amazing to see all the people who knew and loved my son," said Ellenna.  "I never realized how many good friends he had."

Loved ones are still haunted with unanswered questions in Austin's death.  Logan county investigators are looking for the driver who hit Austin and then left the scene.  If you  have any information you are asked to contact the sheriff's office at (937) 592-5731.

Funeral services for Austin will be held at Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2.  Visitation will be from 4- 8 p.m. Thursday, November 1.
