DAYTON, Ohio (Dayton Business Journal) - In 2011, Verizon Wireless invested $302 million in its wireless network in Ohio, including its introduction of 4G LTE to 45 cities, including Dayton.

The investment involved:

• Adding new cell sites and upgrading equipment at existing cell sites to increase coverage and capacity;

• Installing permanent back-up generators at cell sites; and

• Preparing the network for deployment of 4G LTE throughout the state.

“The reliability of Verizon’s network is a vital key for not only businesses, research parks, start-ups and entrepreneurs, but also for consumers,” said Mark Frazier, president–Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region of Verizon Wireless, in a news release.

Frazier said the investment will help urban and rural communities across Ohio in their bids for new businesses and to host sporting events such as the 2013 NHL All-Star Game, which will be in Columbus.

Verizon Wireless, part of Verizon Communications Inc., has invested more than $2.2 billion in improvements to its Ohio network in Ohio since the compay’s formation in 2000.

Verizon Wireless has dozens of retail locations in the Dayton region and tens of thousands of customers locally.

The company rolled outs its faster 4G network throughout the Dayton region last year.Ginger Christ
