UD fraternity center of hazing investigation

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The University of Dayton has suspended Phi Kappa Psi men's social fraternity for a hazing incident Friday, Oct. 21, at the fraternity house in the south student neighborhood.   

University officials released the following written statement concerning the incident:

"The fraternity forced a newly selected, underage member to consume excessive alcohol in violation of the University's Student Code of Conduct.  The student was taken by the University rescue squad to the hospital where he was treated and released.  The University has withdrawn recognition of the fraternity, including its designated fraternity house, through Jan. 1, 2013 and established conditions that must be met in order to return. During the suspension, the fraternity is prohibited from holding any organizational meetings, events or gatherings."

Phi Kappa Psi members declined to comment on the incident.

According to officials, the fraternity had until February 2 to appeal the suspension. 

The fraternity did not exercise that right.
