FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - For only a buck a day, kids get to wear a hat of some sort to school and show their support for Haitian victims.

"It's a hat my mom got on sale at Kmart."

Brandon Knick says he's proud to wear this Dr. Seuss hat. The reason why shows how big his and his classmates hearts are.

"Because we're trying to raise money for Haiti which is a country that was an earthquake happened and most of the things collapsed and a lot of people died."

Irena Brawley says her 4th grade class watched a short video of the Haitian disaster. Brawley says her kids wanted to contribute anything they could. So the school came up with the "Hats for Haiti" fundraiser.

"And it touched my heart and I know it touched my student's hearts so we feel really strongly about donating this money to the red cross to help them."

Principal Sue Brackenhoff believes her students are going the extra mile after seeing some of the devastation.

"Our children are seeing these images not only of adults that are in crisis but they're seeing images of other children. Children who are without homes, children who are without food."

Brackenhoff says her school is motivated and believes the "Hats for Haiti" program should be a big success.

"We would hope that we could raise at least a thousand dollars for this particular project, in the past we've raised anywhere from $500 to $2000."

Brandon says you can count on him to support other kids who aren't as fortunate as him.

"I'm going to try and bring in five dollars next week and wear a hat each day to help support Haiti."

All of the money raised will go the Red Cross to help with disaster relief.
