DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Ponitz senior Brandon Dabney may not be able to hit every note on his homemade guitar, or figure out the wiring on his team's Battle-Bot, but he has figured out how to get started saving money for college.
"We've already started with the baby steps, one, two, and three," explained Dabney.
Dabney said he and and his family have already reduced their debt and saved a $1,000 for their emergency fund, and are looking to graduate to bigger steps before he graduates.
"Thanks to the Savings Race, my parents and I communicate more effectively on our budget," he said.
"Team Dabney's doing wonderfully," echoed Savings Race 5 Coach Chasity. "We've been able to save over $4,000, so they're about half way towards their goal and they've been able to have a few things paid off and removed from their credit report.
So just like his Battle-Bot, Dabney said he's going to keep tinkering with his budget and sharing what he learns with his classmates.
"I tell them if they can and they have a job or if their parents are willing to start saving a hundred dollars a month just to get started."
