NEW YORK - Sara Bostwick is suing her wedding photographer, Carolyn Monastra, and the studio she works for, Christian Oth Inc., for emotional distress caused by photos showing her in her underwear as she got ready for her wedding day, which were posted online.
The New York Post reported that the photos caused her to "suffer severe emotional injuries, including post-traumatic stress disorder."
The lawsuit states Bostwick, of Long Island, N.Y., was married on Sept. 20 of last year, according to The Post . The bride "forbade" Monastra from taking pictures of her in a state of undress, but the photographer apparently kept snapping away and racy shots ended up online even after Bostwick complained about them, the suit claims.
According to The New York Daily News two months after the wedding, Bostwick's husband found the pictures on the studio's Web site.
Oth photo studio was featured in the Anne Hathaway/Kate Hudson movie "Bride Wars."
The Maryland Wedding Guide Web site lists more than 25 questions that brides and grooms can use to help pick the right photographer for their wedding day. One idea is to ask the photographer to analyze your face to see if the photographer would know how to achieve the most flattering images of you. Also getting a recommendation from someone else is always a good first step.
Last week a wedding photographer in New Jersey pled guilty to theft for failing to deliver photos, albums and videos to hundreds of customers and failing to pay photographers for their work. The state obtained a judgment that provides for $855,618 in consumer restitution to the victims.
