Wanted: 2 groundhogs for weather felony

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - No more messing around with winter and its unwavering desire to stick around.

You don't have to take the law into your own hands because Punxsutawney Phil is a wanted groundhog.

The Butler County Prosecutor has issued an indictment against him for misrepresentation of early Spring.

Sounds like a serious offense.  Prosecutor Michael Gmoser calls it an unclassified felony.

His reasoning is pretty plain to see and feel.  Snow keeps falling and the temperature is way below normal.

The complaint is so intense that Phil could face the death penalty due to, and we quote, "aggravating circumstances and misrepresentation to the people".

Seems a little extreme.  Punxsutawney Phil is the honorary spokes-hog for Groundhog Day after all.

We here at WDTN.com  hate to mention this, but Dayton's beloved groundhog, Rosie, predicted an early spring too.  Word is, she is in hiding at the Boonshoft  Museum of Discovery.

Maybe Phil and Rosie fans need to print up some "Save Punxutawney  Phil and Rosie the Groundhog" t-shirts in their defense.
