Law Enforcement Torch Run area stops

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The 2012 Ohio Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics announced it will be in the Miami Valley Thursday, June 21.

What started in 1981, with six Wichita, Kansas officers running three miles to raise awareness for the Special Olympics program, has grown to the largest grass roots fund-raising effort in the world. 

In 2011, the Torch Run raised more than $42.5 million dollars, worldwide.

In 2011 more than 1,200 officers ran, biked, or assisted as support staff members, as the torch made its way from Cincinnati, Toledo, Cleveland, Marietta, Cambridge or Ashtabula, to the Ohio Stadium in Columbus, for the opening ceremonies of the Ohio Special Olympics State Summer Games.  

The 2012 run began in Ashtabula, Ohio on June 19. Stops during the run Thursday through the Miami Valley will be held at:

  • 8:45 a.m.  Franklin Police Department
  • 1:20 a.m.  Centerville Police Department
  • 1:40 p.m.  Dayton Police Department/MCSO
  • 2:30 p.m.  USAF Museum
  • 4:15 p.m.  Fairborn Police Department
  • 4:45 p.m.  Greene County Lodge #37
  • 6:15 p.m.  Springfield Police Department
