MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WDTN) - The state released preliminary report cards for all Ohio school districts Wednesday morning.
The reports were originally to be released in August, but an investigation into the reporting of student attendance by schools delayed the release of full report cards. The board decided; however, to release more detailed preliminary results because many districts are pursing levy and bond issues.
Springfield City Schools received a rating of "Effective" for the 2011-2012 school year.
Superintendent David Estrop said he's most excited the report card shows his students are progressing from year to year more quickly when compared to those in other districts.
"Our children out-performed a minimum 2/3 of the school districts in Ohio and maybe more," said Dr. Estrop.
The Superintendent attributes the success to the hard work of teachers, students and volunteers.
The district is still below the 75 percent 3rd grade reading level requirement.
Its a point of major concern with Governor Kasich's new law requiring all third graders to pass the state reading test in order to advance.
Dayton city schools, which dropped to "Academic Watch" for the 2011-2012 school year, is also among the districts not meeting this requirement.
Centerville City Schools ranks well above the reading requirement. The district ranked "Excellent with Distinction" for its 13th consecutive year.
"We just have such a great community here in Centerville and Washington Township we have such great support from our parents and its just a whole team effort here," said Tom Henderson, who is the Superintendent of Centerville City schools.
