WASHINGTON TWP., Montgomery Co. (WDTN) - Even on a day when the sun is covered up by clouds, solar panels work. That message was brought home as Ohio Governor Ted Strickland joined in the celebration of the opening of the Dayton Power and Light Company's solar power facility in Washington Township in Montgomery County Tuesday morning.

Governor Strickland said Ohio leads the way in going green. Legislation calls for 25 percent of all energy consumed by Ohioans to be from alternative energy technology by 2025.

The 1.1 megawatt solar array is near the Yankee substation at 9975 Yankee St. and generates enough power for 150 homes in a year.

The facility is the largest such facility in southwestern Ohio and the project cost about $5 million to build.
