CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - November 26th marked the 2nd annual Small Business Saturday.

The national movement is meant to drive shoppers to local merchants rather than large chain retail stores and restaurants.

2 NEWS took a trip to Centerville Coin and Jewelry Connection, a small gift and collectibles shop.

The store prides itself on purchasing merchandise from Ohio-made companies and selling items that cannot be found in retail stores.

"Its important for residents to understand when they buy from our store it helps the community," said Danielle Fritz, the shop's Chief Operations Officer.  "When you spend money at locally owned stores, $68 out of $100 stays right here in the community.  When you purchase from a large chain store, only $45 is stays within the community."

If you would like to know where locally owned stores and restaurants are near you, check out the movement on Facebook. Search 'Small Business Saturday' and then type in your zip code.
