DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton City crews work to contain a sewage spill in the Great Miami River.

It happened Wednesday evening, when contractors hit a sewage line just south of the Stewart Street Bridge.

The contractors were hired by the Ohio Department of Transportation to collect gravel from the river bed to use in construction.

Officials say a small amount of sewage did leak into the water, but a dam helped contain it.

A pump is also working on the spill. The city says it will bring in bigger equipment Thursday morning to contain the sewer line.

City officials say it is not affecting any homes.
