Dr. Jill Biden makes visit to area

CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - The wife of Vice President Joe Biden made a stop in the Miami Valley Wednesday.

Dr. Jill Biden is highlighting the role community colleges play in the U.S. economy.

Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis came along to visit DG Medical in Centerville.

The 50 plus employees got a chance to experience a bit of the White House. Dr. Biden took a look at how DG Medical developed a plan that saved jobs.

This employee owned company was straining from the weight of a declining economy. That is, until a few years ago, when it changed from industrial to medical.

Some of the employees are newly trained. They learned to switch their skills from industrial to bioscience through a program set up with Sinclair Community College. They learned to polish their skill set and learn something new.

As a college teacher for 18 years, Jill Biden is a big supporter of community colleges.

Sinclair President, Dr. Steven Johnson, says Sinclair has long anticipated the employment needs of the community and has developed programs and curriculum designed to increase jobs.
