BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) - A robbery suspect's choice of hiding place draws attention Tuesday. Witnesses said they saw the man hanging out behind a dumpster about 30 feet from the scene of the robbery.
"The cops came around and I said, "Hey, this guy is hiding back here." He was, he kept looking around, like looking in the parking lot, looking for somebody. And right then they said, "Hey, you!" and he took off running across the parking lot," said witness Mark Peshabo.
Police said they believe the man had just come from the U.S. Bank at the corner of North Fairfield Road and Dayton-Xenia Road, where just before 1:30 p.m., a man walked in and handed the teller a note demanding money. Officers said the suspect never showed a weapon, but got away with cash.
Detectives were forced to search through the dumpsters for the money, but none was found. Investigators said it's possible that the suspect was making his way back to his car, which was parked in the lot, when he was spotted near the dumpsters.
