Presidential candidates focus on Ohio

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Each presidential election cycle the spotlight focuses on Ohio. The state can make or break a candidate's shot at the presidency. In fact, no republican presidential candidate has ever won the seat without winning Ohio and that information is not lost on Mitt Romney.

Romney's latest trip through the buckeye state was last week, when he made a swing through the northwestern part of the state, stopping in Bowling Green and Toledo.

The same goes for President Obama, who stumped in Cincinnati last Monday. Obama even kicked off his reelection campaign in Columbus in May, hoping to win votes in our state's capital.

Both candidates are also spending big on advertising in Ohio.

Mr. Obama's campaign has spent nearly $100 million on television commercials in battleground states so far, more than one fifth of that spent in Ohio.

Romney's camp has spent just about a quarter of that, hoping to secure our 18 electoral votes.

The presidential hopefuls have also opened campaign offices throughout the state.

President Obama's website lists four offices in our viewing area. Mitt Romney's campaign lists two GOP victory centers in the Miami Valley.
