COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - By ANN SANNER, Associated Press
Ohio's attorney general says he believes state lawmakers could repeal a new elections law that trims early voting days in the political bellwether state.
Legislative leaders have questioned whether it was possible under the Ohio Constitution to toss out the contentious law because it is subject to a ballot repeal effort this fall. The law has not been enacted pending the outcome of a November vote on whether it should be kept or scrapped.
Attorney General Mike DeWine's comments came after the state's top election official urged the law's repeal. Secretary of State Jon Husted wants lawmakers to repeal the bill and rewrite a new bill after this year's presidential election.
The state officials spoke Thursday at a legislative preview session for journalists organized by The Associated Press.
