Bipartisan fix sought for redistricting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Four Ohio lawmakers are working on a bipartisan agreement to change how the state draws its U.S. House and state legislative districts every 10 years.

This year's process has not been without conflict. The U.S. House lines were in limbo until last month, when legislators compromised to avoid holding two primaries. And Democrats have filed a lawsuit over the GOP-drawn state legislative lines with the Ohio Supreme Court on behalf of three dozen affected Ohioans.

Republicans Frank LaRose and Mike Duffey, and Democrats Tom Sawyer and Ted Celeste told legislative leaders last week that now is the time to enact changes, and they are writing a proposal before the 2021 line-drawing process.

Ohio redraws district maps once per decade to reflect population shifts identified in the U.S. Census.
