DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The chants of "We want Cain" echoed throughout the room, a sign that Herman Cain isn't done yet.
"They want you to believe that we can't do this," Cain told a crowd at the Dayton Marriott. "They want you to believe that with enough character assassination on me I will drop out."
Many in the crowd came wondering if they'd see a campaign about to be buried, but instead walked away buoyed by what candidate Cain had to say.
"I wanted to meet him in person to see for myself if I still believe in him after everything that's been said and I do," says Cain supporter, Michele Jewett. "Something about shaking somebody's hand and looking him in the eye and my gut feeling is he's the man for the job."
Cain's campaign has been pinned down by two sexual harassment allegations against him and the most recent accusation that he had an affair with an Atlanta woman.
All are things Cain denies.
"One of the reasons they want to shoot me down and tear me down is because of the strength of my message that's resonating with the American people," Cain says.
That message included Cain's criticism of the Super Committee and the major budget cuts the military will now have to make that will hurt Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
"That's not leadership," Cain says. "That's putting a bullseye on the backs of our men and women in uniform with too many cuts "
Cain also pushed his 9-9-9 plan that would create a flat 9 percent tax on incomes, businesses and sales and scrap the current tax code.
But what Cain didn't talk about was leaving the race.
"Obama might raise a billion dollars but the American people are going to raise some Cain in 2012," Cain shouted.
But what's not being raised are Cain's poll numbers.
In the last month he's dropped from first to third place, according to Real Clear Politics.
Those numbers will likely dictate his campaign's future.
