DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain told supporters Saturday that he is suspending his presidential campaign amid a barrage of sexual misconduct allegations against him.
Cain firmly denies the allegations, calling them "false and unproven";however, he came to the decision to suspend his campaign after assessing the impact that the allegations were having on his wife, his family and his supporters.
The announcement came just one month before the lead-off caucuses in Iowa.
2News sat down with the president of the Dayton Tea Party to talk about Cain's decision to pull the plug.
"It was to be expected," said Rob Scott, President of the Dayton Tea Party. "His poll numbers were sinking as a result of the allegations, whether true or not. I think he needs to focus on his personal life now."
Even though Cain has suspended his campaign for the White House, Scott believes his policies will reverberate throughout the republican field.
"Cain certainly changed the debate amongst the republican candidates," said Scott. He is the only one that really offered a dramatic plan, the 9-9-9 plan. His plan changed the mindset of the other republicans. They began offering their own tax reform plans. He has impacted the race as far as what is being talked about and the policies that are being moved forward even though he is no longer in the race."
Scott now believes the race for the republican presidential nomination is down to two candidates; Mitt Romney and Newt Gingridge.
The following people have recently been booked into Jail. They may not have been convicted of the crimes they are charged with and are innocent until proven guilty.
