Year later homicide remains unsolved

MERCER COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) - Elaine Grube keeps most of the good memories in some boxes under her bed, but unfortunately the bad ones are never far away either.

"I've never had to deal with anything as horrible as this," Elaine says. "You can't get over it."

The pictures Elaine keeps in those boxes show the many happy times spent with family including her brother-in-law Robert Grube and his daughter Colleen.

"They were happy-go-lucky, regular people," Elaine says.

Nearly a year has passed since Robert and Colleen were bound up with duct tape and shot to death inside their home outside Fort Recovery, but the case remains a mystery.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has even featured it as part of the state's Unsolved Homicide Database but still no arrests.

"I never would have dreamt it would take this long," Elaine says.

Elaine believes the Mercer County Sheriff's Office has done a good job with the investigation.

She continues to pray that those behind the brutal killings will soon be brought to justice.

"That they do find somebody so we can heal," Elaine says. "That's what we need to do is heal from this because it's still open yet."

But until that closure comes, Elaine is left with just the memories both good and bad.

"It's just still hard to get over," Elaine says.
