COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) - Miami Valley students will soon have one less obstacle preventing them from visiting the Statehouse in Columbus as the state makes new grants available to schools.

Beginning Tuesday, schools will be able to apply for transportation grants designed to help offset the cost of a field trip to the state capitol.

Created in 2009, the program funded by Honda of America Mfg and the Walmart Foundation, issues 240 for a total of $72,000.

The grant pays out based on one-way mileage to the Ohio Statehouse:

  • 1 to 50 miles: $200 grant
  • 51 to 100 miles: $300 grant
  • 101+ miles: $400 grant
