CASTALIA, Ohio (AP) - Workers at a wildlife rehabilitation center in northern Ohio have been spending the last three months trying to save a female bald eagle hit by a plane.

The eagle has been through two surgeries to repair a broken wing since it was injured at an airport near Port Clinton.

Just last week, the eagle managed to fly to a perch 8 or 9 feet above the ground.

Workers at the center near Lake Erie tell The News-Herald newspaper in Port Clinton that they hope to release the eagle late this summer.

But first their next goal is to get the eagle into a larger flight cage where she can practice making turns.
