Ohio on pace to get $33M in unreported tax revenue

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A state tax official says Ohio likely will collect millions of dollars more in unreported tax revenue for 2012 than it did the previous fiscal year.

Vaughn Lombardo of the Ohio Department of Taxation tells the Dayton Daily News that Ohio is on pace to get $33 million in unreported tax revenue for the fiscal year ending this month. That's up from $26 million last year.

Lombardo says an increase in such collections in recent years stems from the use of a Dayton-area company's data warehousing system. In 2009, Ohio began using the Teradata Corp. technology, which helps analysts compare taxpayer data with other information sources to determine when money is owed but not paid.

Teradata says it has helped Ohio and seven other states recover about $1.8 billion.
