DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - State budget cuts have caused a decrease in voter locations but an increase in voter confusion.
“We get a lot of calls in the office and they just don't know what's going on,” said Susan Hesselgresser of the League of Women Voters.
She said one of the most confusing issues is where to vote, as many polling locations have changed.
“In Montgomery County they've cut precincts from 548 to 360 and poling locations from 352 to 176,” she explained. “If you go to your polling location and the precinct has been moved but people are still voting there you can vote but it will be a provisional ballot.”
Your vote will be counted, but not for two weeks. And you won't get to vote on your local issues.
The Boards of Elections are trying to work with you. You will get a post card from the board, no matter what county you are in. The 3x5 card, due out in the next couple of weeks will tell you where your polling place will be.
If you miss the card, go online and look up your local Board of Elections, or just call the League of Women Voters.
Also remember the absentee ballot reminder you received in the mail from Secretary of State Husted is just an application to vote absentee. If you choose absentee, you'll be sent an absentee ballot and your vote will be counted, which means you don't have to go to the polls.
Hesselgresser asks that whatever method you choose, do make sure your voice is heard this election day. She also reminds that early voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 2 at your local Board of Elections. Voter registration ends Oct. 9 with election day Nov. 6.
