CELINA, Ohio (WDTN) - As many as 200 dogs were found all over a property in Mercer County when Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant, Sept. 12, 2012.
Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said his office was investigating conditions of animals, specifically dogs on the property at at 972 State Route 49.
Deputies discovered dogs in several buildings including the main house, out buildings, and campers.
A total of 19 dogs, including seven puppies estimated at six-weeks-old and their mother, were removed from the property. Grey said eight of the other dogs removed were deemed terminally ill by a local veterinarian and were euthanized.
The owners of the property cooperated with deputies, and according to Grey, the investigation is continuing.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Mercer County Dog Warden Tom Powell, Randolph County SPCA, and the Fort Recovery Veterinarian Clinic.
