Changes at Ohio Jeep plant force out workers

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Dozens of workers are going to lose their jobs when Chrysler makes changes in a northwest Ohio plant where Jeep Wranglers are built.

The (Toledo) Blade reports that Chrysler is taking over control of its paint shop in the Toledo plant after using an onsite supplier.

Of the paint shop employees, 73 were Jeep workers with 30-plus years whom Chrysler recruited to retire and join the new plant when it opened in 2006. Now that Chrysler will be using its own employees in the shop, those workers are being let go.

Chrysler spokesman Jodi Tinson said the company is better served by taking over the painting facility. And because the workers had already retired, they can't be brought back.
