SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a body found on Santa Cruz Island off the Southern California coast is a 23-year-old hiker from Dublin, Ohio who most likely fell from one of the island's cliffs.

Ventura and Santa Barbara county search and rescue teams found the body Tuesday on a beach below a steep cliff, and coroner's investigators later identified the man as Anthony Mondiek.

A Santa Barbara sheriff's statement says it appears Mondiek died from an accidental fall, but the coroner will determine the official cause of death.

The Ventura County sheriff's office sent a helicopter to the island Monday night after the National Park Service reported that Mondiek was several days overdue from a trip to the island.

The search was called off late Monday due to a storm, but resumed Tuesday.
