Thousands in northeast Ohio still without power

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Thousands of northeast Ohio homes and businesses remain without electricity as crews work to restore power knocked out by stormy weather early this week.

The lights are back on for many of the 250,000 Ohio customers who lost power after high winds from superstorm Sandy's outer bands uprooted trees and brought down power lines. FirstEnergy reported about 12,000 customers with no power Sunday, mostly in Cleveland and its suburbs.

Cleveland officials have warned residents to watch for downed wires that could be a safety risk. A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after touching a power line brought down by the storm.

The city urged people to skip traditional trick-or-treating as a safety precaution and instead take children to "Big City Boo" celebrations at local recreation centers this weekend.
