CINCINNATI (AP) — A southwest Ohio woman who says she was fired after missing three months of work as she was being treated for aggressive breast cancer has filed a lawsuit against her former employer.
Jeanine Gaver (GAY'-vur) of Waynesville is accusing Digestive Specialists and her former supervisor of discriminating against her because of her illness and violating the federal Family and Medical Leave Act.
Gaver filed her lawsuit Friday in federal court in Dayton. She is seeking $1.7 million for lost wages and pain and suffering.
She says Digestive Specialists took her off health insurance and offered her a job with fewer hours when she got well enough to work after a double mastectomy. Eventually, she says she was fired.
Digestive Specialists did not immediately return calls for comment Wednesday.
