LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — Police say a man has been arrested in a Cleveland suburb after he attacked a police dog that had latched onto his leg.

WJW-TV reports that it started when a Lorain police officer pursued a man who was involved in an argument in a parking lot and was reported to have a gun.

When the police dog found Willie Ramos hiding in a rose bush, the man allegedly attacked the dog. The officer said Ramos grabbed the dog's face and repeatedly punched it with a closed fist.

The dog refused to let go of the suspect's leg even while it was being punched. The animal, named Kriss, was not seriously injured.

Ramos pleaded not-guilty to four charges in court Monday, including assaulting a police dog.
