Ohio, Kentucky governors to meet on bridge funds

CINCINNATI (AP) - The governors of Ohio and Kentucky will meet next week to show their resolve to work together on a major Ohio River bridge project.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Ohio's John Kasich and Kentucky's Steve Beshear plan to be in Covington, Ky., on Dec. 12 to discuss a study on funding the Brent Spence Bridge overhaul. The bridge linking downtown Cincinnati and Covington is considered functionally obsolete by federal standards, with traffic way over its capacity.
Some of those pushing to speed up the $2.5 billion project say tolls need to be charged to help raise funds, but northern Kentucky lawmakers are opposed to it.
A current timetable calls for completion of the bridge project in 2022; a business coalition is campaigning to get it done earlier.
