CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — The defense for an Ohio teen charged in a school shooting rampage that killed three students has filed an insanity plea on his behalf.

The one-sentence filing Monday on behalf of 18-year-old suspect T.J. Lane had been expected and didn't elaborate on the insanity issue.

Lane's attorneys have said he suffers from hallucinations, psychosis and fantasies.

Attorneys filed the not guilty by reason of insanity plea in Geauga (jee-AW'-guh) County east of Cleveland.

Lane is being tried as an adult and faces a maximum life in prison without parole if convicted of the shootings Feb. 27 in the Chardon High School cafeteria.

There was no immediate comment from the prosecutor on the insanity plea. Phone and email messages were left for him.
